CNC machining uses computer aided design to generate digital instructions and enable us to generate CNC programs which will plot Tool Paths for our machines to follow and manufacture components exactly to your specification.
Precision CNC machining is a sector of manufacturing which provides a high level of accuracy and is the most suited for mass production and allows quick and reliable production of many types of specialist components to our clients design and specification.
Birchfield Engineering Ltd have a varied range of Fixed Head and Vertical Milling CNC machines and have invested year on year. This way we can stay in touch with the fast-paced development of CNC machines which enable quick, cost-effective production.
Providing a specialist service using modern CNC machines, our highly trained team have great knowledge and many years of experience who will assist clients with their subcontract machining requirements. During production we will carry out capability studies on critical features and can achieve and maintain close tolerances, for example 10-20 micron on a turned diameter.
We use a variety of machines which enables us to provide a machining solution for a wide range of sizes and components of many types of application and purpose.
The types of machining we offer:
Quality is assured with an accredited ISO Certification for our systems and processes, Inspection reports, Certificates of Conformity along with many aspects of IATF 16949:2016 such as PPAP reports.
Machining Bar of up to 3m allows a bar fed machine for continuous CNC machining, cut billets of material, press cut profiles, laser cut profiles, flame cut profiles, various types of castings, extruded profiles as well as machining from customers free issue material.
‘Complete machining of components on one machine’
‘Significantly reduced “set up” times and increased productivity’
‘A ‘one hit’ fully machined component manufactured efficiently and sustainably’
CNC Fixed Head Machining – We have a variety of single spindle lathes with a single turret as well as a variety of twin turret lathes with twin spindles offering machining on multiple axis. These types of machines allow us to perform multiple machine operations at once so components are produced quicker and, in many circumstances, a single part can be completed in just one machine cycle.
Vertical Machining Centre – Where the component is held static in a fixture on the machine bed and the tool approaches from above. The machine bed then moves in multiple axis to cut the desired size and shape of the component. We can offer machining on a vertical capacity on many types of components of all shapes and sizes up to 500 x 1000mm. Our vertical machining processes often involve bespoke made fixtures made in house which allows us to hold and machine components which often have a unique shape or form.
CNC Technology has been and will continue to be the future of precision engineering. The development of CNC machining has been designed to increase the reliability and accuracy of precision engineers worldwide. The intentions are to increase productivity, sustainability, and versatility. The range and complexity of components produced using CNC technology is getting better and better with every advancement.
At a glance
Efficient Machining – carrying out multiple machine operations on a multi axis CNC machine reduces production time. “Set up” times and cycle times are reduced.
High Quality – With the use of modern CNC technology, expertise, and quality assurance our twin turret, twin spindle machines help to eliminate the risk of non-conforming components. Enabling greater precision and a machining service you can trust.
Cost reductions – Utilizing the advanced technology and development of modern CNC machining by investing in multiple axis machines we have been able to reduce energy costs, “set up” and machine cycle times. The result is a sustainable production process.
